Standard pages explained

Applies to: pagenorma S, pagenorma QS

Literary translation is usually paid by the standard page. pagenorma uses the European convention:

1 standard page = 1800 characters, including spaces.

Where it is used

  • Progress and pace — translated pages are your translation’s characters divided by 1800.
  • Earnings — pages multiplied by your rate per page. See Financial Analytics.
  • Source Standard Pages in the project form — suggested from the source text when you fetch the data.
  • AI usage — analysis and glossary pages are counted in the same standard pages. A run is charged for the larger of the source and the translation, rounded up. For example, if the source is 400,000 characters and the translation 420,000, the run counts as 234 pages (420,000 ÷ 1800, rounded up).
  • Page ranges — when you choose pages to analyse, “page 78” means the 78th block of 1800 characters.

Other definitions

Settings → Standard Page Definition also lists 1500 characters without spaces, marked as coming soon. For now, 1800 characters with spaces is the only option.
